Katy Stuehm

Katy was born and grew up in Northern California.  She inherited her love of animals from both her family and early childhood friend and mentor, JoDe Collins.  Her grandmother, Hildreth Hunter had jumpers and ranch horses from early childhood and was surrounded by dogs throughout her life.  Hildreth's uncle, Joe Urmston raised both Kerry Blue and Wirehaired Fox Terriers.  Hildreth, also a terrier lover, had Yorkshires and Jack Russells as well as non-terrier breeds such as Whippets, Dalmations and Lhasa Apsos before finding Irish Terriers.  Upon introduction to this breed she declared that she would have no other and founded Falcarragh Irish Terriers.

Katy worked for horse trainer JoDe Collins for twelve years before attending and graduating from UC Davis.  In 2003 she met friend and Griffon mentor Shannon Ford of Griffonpoint Kennel.  Shannon guided Katy in the gun dog training of her first two Griffs and eventually in their breeding.  Shannon continues to mentor Katy while she plans the future generations of Newtown Kennels. 

In 2007 Katy solicited the advice and help of GunDog trainer Brad Higgins.  Three years later Katy and Brad are now working together to provide quality gun dog training for all sporting breeds.  Today Katy not only continues to breed dogs but also works independently starting young horses under saddle while raising two children.
