Higgins Releaser

This is a short video of a bird releaser.  We have used bird launchers which are certainly useful but we have found that the bird releaser allows the birds to behave as naturally as possible.  With a launcher, the trainer must choose when to launch the bird and the bird always goes up (flushes).  Launchers are a little noisy and can startle a young or tentative dog.  The releaser opens quietly without startling or flushing the bird.  This allows the bird to flush when he either feels pressure from the dog or when the trainer/shooter steps in to flush it.  This is valuable because it can help in teaching the dog not only stop to flush but also bird management.  In real hunting situations the bird(s) does not always flush, sometimes it will freeze or run.  This is possible with the releaser where it is not possible with the launcher.  In this video you can see how relaxed and natural four quail behave in the releaser.
